Donation helps freshplace

Sarah Wolfe, marketing coordinator at Fiduciary Investment Advisors, LLC and Ray Grasso, services director for Freshplace, stand in front of Hartford’s newest food pantry. Before Freshplace officially opened its doors in July, Fiduciary Investment Advisors pledged to donate 100 boxes of pasta per month for a year to the new organization. The Windsor-based investment consulting firm is involved with the United Way Day of Caring and has raised over $100,000 for Connecticut Children’s Medical Center through participation in the Hartford Marathon.

Development Website Earns Honor For UI

United Illuminating has an honorable mention for excellence in economic development for the company’s Central Coast Website. The honor comes from the International Economic Development Council in the category of special purpose website for communities with populations of 200,000 — 500,000. “We recognize the The United Illuminating Company for providing successful strategies to promote new paradigms in economic development in this period of global recovery,” said William Best, IEDC chair. “The United Illuminating Company is showing that they are at the forefront of the economic development profession and are using innovative and effective practices that can be replicated in other communities.” CTCentralCoast.com is the only website marketing the CT Central Coast region. The comprehensive, easy-to-use website attracts site selectors, consultants, and companies to locate facilities in Connecticut. One highlight of the site is the map room that enables the user to produce customized, layered maps for users. It provides critical economic data for the region in one location, including extensive information on targeted clusters and comprehensive workforce information.

Event Funds Expansion

GOODWorks Inc., which provides a unique gender specific mentoring program for women in recovery, recently held its sixth annual golf tournament at Simsbury Farms Golf Course in Simsbury. The event raised funds for the GOODWorks which offers an immediate safety net for women upon release from the criminal justice system. Through this fundraising event, GOODWorks will be able to increase its capacity and to increase the continuum of care and services for these women.

Hartford library honored

The Hartford Public Library has received a Top Innovations Award for its program HartfordInfo.org from the Urban Libraries Council. Hartford Mayor Pedro E. Segarra and City Councilman Jim Boucher presented library officials — including Matthew K. Poland, the library’s CEO; Richard Frieder, associate librarian for community development; and Gregory C. Davis, president of the library’s Board of Directors — with a proclamation celebrating the accomplishment Sept. 13. Susan Benton, president and CEO of Urban Libraries Council also was on hand.
