• The Metropolitan District (MDC) is continuing the final phase of a district-wide, eight-town program to install automated meter reading devices at each location presently connected to the MDC water distribution system. In coordination with its supplier, Itron Inc. and its installation contractor, Utility Partners of America (UPA), the MDC will install approximately 30,000 automated meter reading devices for customers in the towns of East Hartford, West Hartford, Rocky Hill and Farmington. (Installation of the devices in Wethersfield, Newington, Hartford, Bloomfield and Windsor customers has already been completed under the initial phase of the project.) This program will implement industry standard automation technology that is proven to significantly reduce estimated water bills, increase billing accuracy and eliminate the need to routinely access customer homes to read water meters.
