• Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center has received a $2.5 million gift from a grateful patient who wishes to remain anonymous. The unrestricted $2.5 million gift is the latest in a series of major donations to Saint Francis. In July 2008, the hospital received the largest donation in its history, a $12.5 million gift from an anonymous donor in support of the Hoffman Heart and Vascular Institute. An anonymous $6 million gift, announced in January 2008, is supporting the hospital’s orthopedic program, including the Connecticut Joint Replacement Institute.
• The Wellness Councils of America presented its Gold Well Workplace Award to Acme Monaco Corp., a New Britain manufacturer of wire products servicing the commercial, orthodontic, and medical industries. The Gold Well Workplace Award recognizes an organization for its commitment to the health and well-being of its employees.
• A nonprofit governance forum, sponsored by the Commission on Jewish Education & Leadership of the Jewish Federation and the Jewish Community Foundation, drew more than 40 leaders from local synagogues and agencies. The forum was developed to educate and prepare leaders who serve on the boards of Jewish community organizations. J.H. Cohn and Reid & Riege, PC provided corporate sponsorship.
• For the fifth time in six years, Adams & Knight was named marketer of the year at the Connecticut Chapter of the American Marketing Association’s annual awards ceremony, winning the prestigious top honor for a Web site it created for Dreyfus, Ashby, a global wine importer based in New York. The Avon integrated communications firm also won 12 Mark of Excellence awards across a wide array of marketing disciplines — integrated marketing campaigns, public relations, research, Web site development, special event promotion, television and radio advertising.
