• ING’s U.S Retirement Services business earned industry recognition for the effectiveness of its retirement-planning communications throughout the 2009 — 2010 awards season. At the Pensions & Investments 2010 Eddy Awards ceremony in March, ING received eight awards — five first-place and three second-place. The Eddys, presented annually by Pensions & Investments magazine since 1995, recognize plan sponsors and service providers that epitomize best practices in providing investment education to defined contribution plan participants. Key criteria include the campaign’s objective, the communication strategy for reaching the objective and the results achieved.
• Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center recently hosted three physicians from Irtkutsk State Medical University in Siberia for medical conferences sponsored by Siberian-American Children’s Health Program. Begun in 1990, the program is a collaboration among Saint Francis, the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center (CCMC), the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and the Irkutsk State Medical University. Over the last 20 years, it has tackled such children’s health issues as child development, infant mortality and surgical management in both Siberia and Greater Hartford. While here, most recently, the visiting physicians observed clinical services at Saint Francis and CCMC and designed collaborative research projects.
• The University of Connecticut Health Center has earned a Gold Seal of Approval for John Dempsey Hospital, including its inpatient behavioral health services, after recent site visits by The Joint Commission, a national hospital accrediting body. The Joint Commission conducted an unannounced, on-site evaluation of John Dempsey Hospital in December. The accreditation award recognizes the Health Center’s dedication to complying with The Joint Commission’s state-of-the-art standards on a continuous basis.
