• Andrea Obston Marketing Communications has been chosen as the state’s best legal public relations firm – receiving a Gold Award by the readers of the Connecticut Law Tribune. This is the fourth year the Bloomfield-based communications firm has been honored by Connecticut’s legal community as one of the top three PR firms in the state.
• Middlesex Community College (MxCC) Child Development Center director Hilary Phelps has been honored by the Connecticut Association for the Education of Young Children (CAEYC) with the Early Childhood Outstanding Service Award for Exemplary Service to Children and Families. Phelps is the MxCC representative to the Middletown School Readiness Council and is a member of MxCC’s President’s Committee on Diversity.
• GEI Consultants, a water resources, geotechnical, and environmental engineering firm, has announced that Nathan (Nate) Whetten, P.E., C.G., has been elected president of the Connecticut chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies, a national organization made up of more than 5,700 engineering firms that support and advocate the business interests of its member firms. Whetten is a senior project manager and senior associate for GEI Consultants and has more than 25 years of experience as a geotechnical engineer working for consulting engineering firms.
• Hartford Federal Credit Union has been awarded first place in the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award. This statewide award recognizes exemplary involvement in community projects and activities. The credit union was recognized for its work with several charitable organizations including the South Windsor Food & Fuel Bank and Foodshare.
• The U.S. Department of Labor reports that the U.S. Postal Service’s Bradley Airmail Facility in Windsor Locks has earned membership in OSHA’s “Star” Voluntary Protection Program. To qualify for a star, average injury and illness rates must be below the current, comparable private sector average rates published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
• The 180 employees of Aetna’s Large Case Pension and Investment Management Group helped raise $25,000 during Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity’s recent week-long build-a-thon. In addition, 100 Aetna employees helped during the construction of five homes on Enfield Street in Hartford.
