Ocean State Job Lot has launched its 28th location in Connecticut at the former Kmart store in Vernon.
The discount retailer, based in North Kingstown, R.I., said the 40,000-square-foot store at 295 Hartford Turnpike opened to shoppers late last week with nearly 50 full- and part-time employees.
Officials say the Vernon store sells household goods, apparel, pet supplies, and other kitchen and seasonal products, among others.
The store is currently open every day from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Earlier this year, Ocean State Job Lot said it leased the building from landlord CE Vernon II LLC of Fairfield.Â
Founded in 1977, the privately held chain says it has approximately 5,600 workers across 142 stores in New England, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Its annual sales hover around $750 million.
Ocean State Job Lot’s debut in Vernon comes more than a year after Sears Holdings began to shutter another batch of its unprofitable stores, including the Kmart store in Vernon, as it continued liquidation sales last year.
