Eversource and Avangrid residential customers who are contracted with third-party electricity suppliers paid a total of $3.1 million more in April than they would have under standard offer pricing from the utilities, according to a monthly report from the Office of Consumer Counsel.
About 64.5 percent of supplier customers in Eversource’s territory paid more than standard offer during the month, up from 49 percent last April. Meanwhile, 42.7 percent of supplier customers in Avangrid’s territory paid more than the standard offer, up from 39.5 percent, according to the OCC report released Thursday.
Eversource customers paid $2.9 million more while Avangrid customers paid $224,700 more.
From May 2016 to April 2017, Connecticut’s residential customers paid a total of $63.8 million over standard offer, up from $50 million in the comparable rolling-year period.
Third-party suppliers’ market share was also down over the last 12 months. Suppliers served 28 percent of Eversource customers in the recent month, down from 31.7 percent, while suppliers served 35.7 percent of Avangrid customers, down from 36.6 percent, the OCC said.
