New York investor pays $3.2M for 35-unit apartment building near downtown Hartford

A Monroe, New York-based investor recently paid $3.2 million for a 35-unit apartment building just south of downtown Hartford.

In a deed recorded Feb. 20, a limited liability company headed by Mordchai Stern bought the 1920-vintage, brick apartment building at 12-16 Groton St.

The selling LLC was headed by Brooklyn-based multifamily investor Gershon Eichorn.

This isn’t the only significant Hartford purchase for Stern last month. In a separate deed recorded earlier in February, he paid $2.45 million for a 30-unit, 1927-vintage apartment building in Hartford’s Asylum Hill neighborhood.

As part of the latest deal, Stern assumed a $2.21 million loan Eichorn had taken from Arbor Agency Lending LLC in 2018.

Steve Pappas and Tess Cullen of Chozick Realty Inc. represented the seller.
