Shelton’s NXT-ID Inc. said its subsidiary is working with a Florida police department to evaluate its biometric facial recognition identification systems.
3D-ID, which is wholly owned by NXT-ID, has partnered with the Palm Bay Police Department, which is using the FaceMatch system to enroll inmates in local detention centers.
According to the company, FaceMatch senses shape at up to a million points on the human face without using lasers or projected patterns. The system isn’t hampered by varied lighting, facial hair, cosmetics or other changes in appearance like 2D systems are, NXT-ID says.
The company hopes to grow a base of law enforcement customer and build a cloud-enabled face database.
