NU’s COO to change title, lead new strategy division

Northeast Utilities’ Chief Operating Officer Leon Olivier will relinquish his title on Sept. 2 and become the leader of NU’s newly formed Enterprise Energy Strategy & Business Development Organization.

The energy strategy division will focus on ways to solve energy market challenges in New England through developments and policies. Solutions like grid modernization, renewable energy, and regional transmissions projects all are on the agenda.

Olivier will retire his position as NU executive vice president and COO and move into the new position of executive vice president for energy strategy and business development. Olivier, 65, has served with NU or its subsidiaries since 2001 and as COO since 2008.

Werner Schweiger, 54, will become the new NU executive vice president and COO. Immediately prior to this position, Schweiger served as president of the NU electric distribution division. He has worked as a member of the NStar team since 2002, which became part of NU in 2012.
