NU to advise industry on self-healing technologies

Hartford electric and natural gas holding company Northeast Utilities will advise the rest of the utility distribution industry on the best way to use smart grid technologies in provide services to customers.

At the Smart Grid Distribution Automation Conference in November in North Carolina, officials from Northeast Utilities will discuss the role self-healing technologies play in restoring energy following faults in the system.

The entire conference is a way for the industry to discuss the upcoming switch to smart grid, which uses new technology to let customers better understand their energy usage and lets utilities better provide energy to those customers.

Smart grid distribution automation spending is expected to exceed $46 billion worldwide by 2015, according to clean tech advisory firm Pike Research.
