A subsidiary of Hartford’s Northeast Utilities is creating some good will in New Hampshire, where it’s pursuing a key piece of a $1.4 billion transmission project.
Northern Pass Transmission LLC announced the creation of a $7.5 million jobs creation fund for the northern region of the Granite State. The fund will be overseen by a group of business leaders and local officials.
All but $200,000 of the funding is dependent on Northern Pass getting state and federal approvals for its eponymous $1.4 billion project, which calls for a direct current transmission line from the Canadian border to a converter station in Franklin, N.H.
The utility says the project will bring 1,200 megawatts of energy from Hydro-Québec’s hydroelectric plants in Canada to New Hampshire and New England.
