NU subsidiaries fund robotics contest

Electric utility Connecticut Light & Power and natural gas utility Yankee Gas, both of Berlin, are offering grants up to $1,000 to high school students submitting entries into the 2012 Connecticut FIRST Robotics Competition.

More than 1,500 high school students design, build, test and ship a fully functional robot for the FIRST competition, and is designed to encourage students to study science, technology, engineering and math.
CL&P and Yankee Gas — both subsidiaries of Hartford’s Northeast Utilities — are accepting applications for grants from any high school students in their service territories. Applications are available at www.cl-p.com/Home/Community/FIRST. The application deadline is Feb. 27.
The FIRST competition is March 29-31 at the Connecticut Convention Center in downtown Hartford.
