Hartford utility parent Northeast Utilities, through its Connecticut electric and gas subsidiaries, has awarded $5,097 to four projects for its Environmental Community Grant Program.
Connecticut Light & Power and Yankee Gas, both in Berlin, handed out $1,200 to the Interdistrict School for Arts and Communication in New London to purchase flower bulbs, soil and planters for a community garden.
Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center in Mystic received $1,500 for backpacks, binoculars, compasses and other materials for the center’s Family Backpack” initiative.
Natchaug Hospital in Mansfield won $1,500 to transform an interior courtyard into a therapeutic garden and recreational area.
Norwalk River Watershed Initiative in Georgetown received $897 for the design and production of an interactive working model of a rain garden.
