NStar Electric, a proposed subsidiary of Hartford-based Northeast Utilities, will offer its Boston customers detailed energy usage through the White House’s Green Button initiative.
The Green Button initiative allows customers to access information on participating utilities’ Web sites about how they use electricity in their businesses or homes. NStar is the first utility in the Northeast to sign up for the initiative spearheaded by the White House and the U.S. Department of Energy.
After accessing the information, ratepayers then can make informed decisions on the best way to use electricity in their homes, especially as more technology emerges to monitor energy consumption.
NStar Electric is a subsidiary of Boston-based NStar, which is expected to merge with Northeast Utilities by April 16, pending approval from Connecticut and Massachusetts regulators.
