New Jersey-based NRG Energy Inc., operator of nine Connecticut power plants, announced second quarter earnings of $621 million on Thursday while announcing the transition to a new chief financial officer.
The Princeton, N.J., company had a net income of $621 million, or $2.53 per share, in the second quarter, up 195 percent from last year’s second quarter net income of $210 million, or 81 cents per share.
The large increase in the second quarter followed the completion of a federal tax audit, increasing net income by $600 million because of the reversal of tax liabilities.
NRG on Thursday also announced Chief Financial Officer Christian Schade will leave the company in September to become CFO for Omthera Pharmaceuticals in New Jersey. NRG expects to name a new CFO in the near future.
