NRG to replace Sun Micro in S&P 500

Power plant owner NRG Energy Inc., with four plants in Connecticut, will replace Sun Microsystems Inc. in the S&P 500 index because Sun Microsystems is being acquired by Oracle Corp., Standard & Poor’s said.

The change will be made after the close of trading on a date to be announced.

The Oracle deal to acquire Sun Microsystems is expected to be completed soon. Oracle is listed on the S&P 100 and S&P 500 indexes.

S&P said it will monitor the transaction, and post any relevant updates.

NRG Energy is a wholesale power generation company based in Princeton, N.J. (AP)
