NRG joins DOE carbon reduction venture

Power generator NRG Energy Inc., which operates electric generating plants in Connecticut, is joining the Department of Energy‘s National Carbon Capture Center, which aims to develop ways to capture carbon dioxide from coal-fired plants, the center’s operator said.

The Wilsonville, Ala.-based National Carbon Capture Center already includes American Electric Power, Luminant, Arch Coal, Peabody Energy and the Electric Power Research Institute, said Southern Co., which manages and operates the center.

The National Carbon Capture Center is set to be fully operational next year. (AP)
