NRG earns $251M in 2Q

New Jersey energy provider NRG Energy, Inc. – which operates nine power plants in Connecticut – saw its earnings drop by 60 percent in the second quarter.

The company earned $251 million, or $1.08 per share, in the second quarter vs. earnings of $621 million, or $2.53 per share, in the second quarter 2011.

This year’s earnings were more in line with other quarters for NRG as the second quarter 2011 was positively impacted by the reversal of tax liabilities following the completion of the company’s federal tax audit.

NRG’s revenues before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization were $539 million in the second quarter vs. $517 million in the second quarter 2011.
