Defense giant Northrop Grumman told employees at its Norwalk-based Norden Systems that it is moving its manufacturing and engineering operations out of the state in the next 18 months, leaving close to 300 workers without jobs, the CT Post reports.
Employees, who build drones and satellite systems, said they knew this was a possibility because of growing constraints on defense spending. But they had hoped efforts by the state’s congressional delegation would lead to the preservation of the historically significant and highly technical operations in Connecticut.
There are 315 employees at the plant, and 30 to 50 could get offers to relocate, Northrop said.
