Just in time for students heading off to college, Norwalk online textbook retailer Akademos Inc. is launching an Internet market to rent school books to students from third-party sellers.
TextbookX.com will offer books for rent from Akademos’ catalog as well.
“By renting marketplace books which are already sold at deep discounts, we are able to further reduce the cost of getting textbooks into the hands of students,” said Akademos CEO Brian Jacobs.
Akademos claims to have pioneered the online textbook sales market in 2002. So novel is its online rental concept, Akademos says it has applied for a patent.
