The Norwalk Housing Authority has proposed building 68 units of affordable senior housing in South Norwalk, according to plans filed with the city.
Sound Communities Inc., an authority subsidiary that develops affordable housing, plans to erect a seven-story building on a 0.56-acre parcel at 79 S. Main St. The property would include 64 one-bedroom and four, two-bedroom apartments for seniors who are at least 62 years old.
The property would have 34 parking spaces, 20 of which would be underneath the building.
Sound Communities currently owns the 79 S. Main St. property, which contains a retail building, a commercial building and two apartment buildings that would be razed to make way for the new development.
Sound Communities owns two other apartment properties in Norwalk: the Meadow Garden Community Center, a 59-unit building at 49 Meadow St., and Oak Grove Apartments, a 69-unit building at 164 W. Cedar St.
