A company that builds small accessory dwelling units reached a sales milestone, announcing Thursday that it has sold its first 10 homes since launching a year ago.
Contemporary Tiny Homes, based in Norwalk, said it is hiring five new employees to meet growing demand for the units, commonly called ADUs.
The hires include a full-time architect, procurement manager, lead carpenter, construction project manager and director of project management.
“We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished so far, and this milestone is just the beginning,” said Breno Neri, the company’s founder and president.
In February, Contemporary Tiny Homes announced its first two sales: a custom-designed, attached ADU in Bristol and a detached one in Guilford.
The accessory dwelling units, also known as in-law suites, are typically built on the same property as a main residence. They can house aging parents, generate rental income or provide additional living space for the property owner.
Industry analysts expect continued growth in the ADU market. Allied Market Research projects the sector will grow at an annual rate exceeding 5% through 2030, driven by a tight housing market and increased interest in multi-generational living arrangements.
Contemporary Tiny Homes designs and builds the units for clients across Connecticut. The company said construction typically takes about six months from design approval to completion.
The company specializes in energy-efficient units customized to individual properties and client needs. The company connects units to existing utilities on the main property, including water, sewer and electrical systems.
