Norwalk-based Infinite Reality acquires London extended reality company for $45M

Infinite Reality, a Norwalk-based developer of immersive virtual reality (VR) experiences, has acquired Zappar, a London-based extended reality (XR) platform and creative studio, for $45 million.

The deal, announced Tuesday, expands Infinite Reality’s product portfolio with Zappar’s technology, which includes XR software, a mixed-reality headset, and Accessible QR (AQR) code solutions, the company said.

This marks the sixth company that Infinite Reality has acquired in 2024,  said Amish Shah, co-founder and chief business officer for Infinite Reality.

Zappar’s products provide businesses with 3D web tooling for creating, managing and experiencing 3D websites, apps, and augmented reality and VR content across mobile, desktop, and headsets like Apple Vision Pro, Quest 3, and Magic Leap 2.

Born out of the University of Cambridge, Zappar has been working for more than a decade to expand the use of XR and place this emerging technology in the hands of more people, Infinite Reality said.

Based at 75 North Water St., in Norwalk, Infinite Reality employs 150 people in various locations in the United States, including 35 in Connecticut.

In July, Infinite Reality announced its $450 million acquisition of Landvault, a London-based company specializing in immersive technology and “digital twins” — virtual 3D models of physical objects — for commercial and government entities.
