Northeast Utilities has rebranded itself and all its natural gas and electric subsidiaries as Eversource Energy, with the change taking place Feb. 2, according to sources within the company.
The change means Berlin electric utility Connecticut Light & Power and natural gas utility Yankee Gas will now be known as Eversource Energy as well, according to CL&P spokesman Mitch Gross.
The rebranding of the company, which is dually headquartered in Hartford and Boston, comes almost three years after its blockbuster $5 billion merger with Boston utility parent NStar.
Consolidating the brand was the next logic step for the company, said Tom May, president, CEO, and chairman, and Eversource best represents the company’s focus moving forward.
With the change rolling out in February, both the Northeast Utilities and NStar names will be no more, in favor of Eversource Energy. In addition to CL&P and Yankee Gas, the other subsidiaries whose names will change to Eversource Energy include NStar Electric, NStar Gas, Western Massachusetts Electric Co., and Public Service of New Hampshire, said Gross.
Northeast Utilities serves 3.6 million natural gas and electricity customers in New England. After changing its name, the company’s New York Stock Exchange Ticker Symbol will switch from NU to ES, effective Feb. 19.
