Northeast housing permits outpace U.S. in July

Housing permits issued in the northeastern United States climbed 16 percent to 106,000 in July, the U.S. Census Bureau reported.

That outpaced nationwide permit growth of 12.4 percent for the same one-year period.

Permits for single-unit residences in the Northeast grew from 43,000 to 51,000, or 16 percent, slightly below U.S. growth of 17 percent.

In the Northeast, completed residential construction was down over the year, from 52,000 to 43,000, while national completions were up from 673,000 to 774,000.
