North Haven energy manufacturer Precision Combustion Inc. received a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Small Business Innovation Research program to develop natural gas into commodity chemicals.
The grant provides PCI with the funds to validate its new approach to replace crude oil with natural gas for the production of industrial chemicals. The process could be applicable to turning natural gas into liquid as well.
Switching to natural gas will make chemical production cheaper as natural gas is significantly cheaper than crude oil and available domestically.
Although others have tried to make this switch plausible, PCI believes it has a new, undisclosed approach that could lead to success. The grant lets the company test if its underlying concepts are valid.
