North Haven firm pays $124K for ammonia release

A company that operates a North Haven cold storage warehouse has agreed to pay $124,181 to settle claims by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency that the Connecticut firm violated the Clean Air Act.

The settlement by Bozzuto’s Inc. stems from an October 2012 inspection into the company’s handling of anhydrous ammonia, which is used as a refrigerant.

Bozzuto, which the EPA said was cooperative throughout the entire process, has spent more than $500,000 since the inspection to bring its North Haven and Cheshire facilities into compliance with the Clean Air Act.
