The North End Action Team’s Farmers Market in Middletown has launched a North End Kids Market program that will bring free, farm-fresh produce to roughly 80 children per week during the summer and fall. The Kids Market is funded by Community Health Center Inc. The program includes children attending the free summer lunch program at the Salvation Army on Main Street and the new Summer Arts and Science Camp at the Green Street Arts Center, both within blocks of the market. Each program will bring these kids to the market weekly where they can use wooden market coins supplied by NEAT to purchase food from any of the produce vendors. As children ‘purchase’ their produce, they will learn about nutrition, business, environment, budgeting, cooking and math. The market runs Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. through Oct. 29.
