Nordstrom is reopening its Farmington and Norwalk stores on Thursday as Connecticut enters week two of its gradual and phased economic reopening during the COVID-19 outbreak.
The luxury retailer on Tuesday announced its Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack stores will take a phased approach to reopening following the state guidelines and recommendations on social distancing and other safety protocols.
In particular, Nordstrom said it will conduct health screenings for its employees before they come into work and provide face coverings for workers and customers as needed.
It’s also increasing cleaning and sanitization of stores; limiting the number of customers and employees in stores to ensure people are at least 6 feet apart; modifying fitting rooms; continuing to offer curbside services at full-line stores; altering hours of operation; and pausing or adapting high-touch services.
“The health and wellbeing of our employees, customers and communities is our priority,” the company said in a statement. “We’ve been paying close attention to guidance and directives from local and national authorities, taking steps to ensure our stores and operations remain in alignment with those.”

Nordstrom’s Farmington location in the Westfarms mall is reopening weeks after the store was rumored to be closing as part of the company’s larger effort to shutter 16 namesake department stores nationwide. However, the company immediately shot down those rumors and said the Farmington store would reopen when the state lifts certain COVID-19 restrictions for nonessential businesses.
