Nordstrom is shuttering 16 namesake department stores to “strengthen its business for the long-term,” the Seattle-based retail giant announced earlier this week, but its Farmington store at Westfarms mall will reopen at some point, a company official confirmed to HBJ.
A report earlier this week by Women’s Wear Daily said Nordstrom was planning to close the Westfarms location, but it was inaccurate.
“It is not included in the 16 stores we announced earlier this week,” said Nordstrom spokeswoman Emily Sterken. “We plan to reopen there when we’re able to.”
That saves a key anchor tenant for Westfarms, which has remained closed since mid March amid the state’s broader pandemic shut down.
Like other retailers, Nordstrom has been negatively affected by the pandemic. Its physical stores remain closed and the reopening of its 116 locations is unclear because of local regulations.
It also announced late Tuesday that it’s “restructuring” corporate and support roles, which will save it around $150 million.
