Nonprofit service provider eyes downtown Hartford property purchase

Hartford-based nonprofit social services provider The Village for Families and Children  has placed a downtown Hartford property under contract, Hartford Business Journal has confirmed.

440-440 Church St. is a three-story, 32,000-square-foot office building across the street from Union Station.

The Village spokesperson Sarah Thompson confirmed the nonprofit is in talks with the current owner, Pocket Properties LLC, but declined to provide specifics about exact plans for how the building might be used.

“The Village has experienced a significant increase in demand for its services. The pandemic has only made the need for additional services and space more acute,” Thompson said. The search for an additional building in Hartford reflects our commitment to our clients and the City of Hartford itself. Discussions with the owner of 450 Church Street are ongoing and we look forward to updating stakeholders and community leaders in the coming weeks.”

The Village started a $1.3 million renovation and expansion project last March in the city’s South End.
