The Village for Families & Children received a $500 donation from the Greater Hartford Host Lions Club. Dr. Jerry Hardison, president of the Greater Hartford Host Lions Club, presented the check to Village President and CEO Galo Rodriguez. The $500 donation is a continuation of the club's 90-year efforts in serving the Greater Hartford community, including providing free eye exams and glasses to children who need them, distributing yearly scholarships for college bound students, and assisting area social service organizations such as The Village.

Willimantic's Savings Institute Bank & Trust recently donated over $7,000 to local charities through the bank's employee funded Caring and Giving Program. In the first two quarters of the year SI employees donated to organizations that focused on helping kids in need and aiding individuals with disabilities or special needs. Donations went to causes such as the Boys & Girls Club of Mansfield, Jonny's Locker of South Kingston R.I., Network Inc. of Andover and the Olean Center of Westerly, R.I. This year Savings Institute Bank & Trust employees plan on donating over $13,000 to selected programs.

Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation has awarded $969,276 in new Healthy Food Fund grants to 20 not-for-profit community food initiatives that grow, distribute and/or market fresh food in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Grant awards are renewable for two additional years. These new grants bring the total amount of Healthy Food Fund grants in 2015 to $1.4 million. The goal of the grant is to make fresh, local food easily accessible and affordable for more low- and middle-income families in their region.

William Raveis Real Estate raised $550,000 during its first annual community fundraising event to benefit the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation. The Raveis Ride + Walk was held in Hingham, Mass., at Derby Academy, and Fairfield at Jennings Beach. The family and community event included a 25-mile ride, 12-mile ride and 5K walk at both venues. The events brought together over 550 participants and volunteers. All of the proceeds went to the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation.
