No To Dems

Connecticut Sen. Joseph Lieberman made national headlines last week when he threatened to join a Republican filibuster of the health care reform bill.

Lieberman, an independent who caucuses with Democrats, said that he is opposed to a government-run health plan and a proposal to expand Medicare to people younger than 65. His stance on health care reform has angered liberals across the U.S. and in Connecticut.

Some have accused Lieberman of trying to protect the insurance industry, which has a dominant presence in Hartford. But Lieberman says he is concerned that the proposals will increase the federal deficit, and put the U.S. further into debt.
