NH Chamber to honor health-care leaders

The Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce’s Health Care & Life Sciences Council next Tuesday will celebrate the contributions of area health-care businesses and other organizations that have helped the larger community navigate the challenges of the global COVID-19 pandemic.

The group’s 18th annual Health Care & Life Sciences Awards event will begin at 8:30 a.m. next Tuesday (June 16) on the virtual Zoom platform.

The chamber’s Health Care Council will present awards in six categories:

  • The Well-Being/Wellness Program award will be presented to Yale New Haven Hospital’s Employee & Family Resources (EFR) program, which has expanded access to wellness services to YNHH employees and their families during the coronavirus crisis.
  • The Clinical Program award will be presented to New Haven’s Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center for its efforts to use telemedicine to avoid potential interruptions in care to patients.
  • The Non-Profit Award will be bestowed on Continuum of Care for implementing new policies for screening, cleaning, working from home initiatives and more.
  • Homodeus Inc. of Guilford will be honored as Bio/Life Sciences Company for its efforts to develop a rapid affordable home test for COVID.
  • Outstanding Research Company honors will be awarded to the Jackson Laboratory for cutting-edge work with mouse models and pandemic research.
  • Guilford’s Bio-Med Devices will be recognized as outstanding Manufacturing Company for its work retooling to fill orders for life-saving ventilators in Connecticut and beyond.

The Tuesday event will also feature a panel discussion on: “Our Growing Sectors: How Health Care & Life Sciences are defining Greater New Haven and Responding to COVID-19” moderated by Garrett Sheehan, the GNHCC’s president & CEO. Panelists include: Todd E. Arnold, chief laboratory operations officer, Sema4; Albert Ko, MD, chair, Department of Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases, Yale School of Public Health; David Lehman,  commissioner of the state’s Department of Economic & Community Development; George Llado, SVP and chief information officer for Alexion Pharmaceuticals Inc.; and Erika R. Smith, CEO of ReNetX Bio Inc. in New Haven.
