State banking regulators approved the bank’s planned branch at Steelpointe Harbor.
Connecticut banking regulators have approved Newtown Savings Bank's application to open a limited-service branch inside The August apartment building at Bridgeport's Steelpointe Harbor redevelopment.
Banking Commissioner Jorge Perez on June 26 approved the application for the Connecticut-chartered bank to establish the branch at 55 East Main St., Suite 2000, according to the state Department of Banking. The anticipated opening date remains the second quarter of 2026.
The branch, first announced in June, will operate by appointment only and offer deposit account openings, mortgage, commercial and business loan applications, financial consultations, and an ATM. It will not provide traditional teller services or handle cash transactions.
The August is a 420-unit mixed-use apartment building under construction as part of the broader Steelpointe Harbor waterfront redevelopment. Newtown Savings is among the lenders financing the approximately $200 million project.
