Tier ONE Machining and Assembly said it has completed the installation of a 292-kilowatt solar array on the roof of its Newtown facility.
Tier ONE said the 810 panels, which cover about 30,000 square feet, are expected to generate enough energy in the first year to cover the cost of the installation and a portion of the cost of installing a new roof.
The approximate cost of the installation was in excess of $1 million, according to Tier ONE.
But the company said it received financing from the Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy (C-Pace) program, as well as other incentives, so it didn’t pay any upfront costs.
Tier ONE said it also uses and recycles environmentally friendly coolants and has energy-efficient lighting.
