New UConn building dedication set for Tue.

The first of two new classroom buildings at the University of Connecticut is set to be formally dedicated on Tuesday, The Associated Press reports.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, UConn President Susan Herbst and other dignitaries are scheduled to participate in the ceremony at 1 p.m.

The 70,000-square-foot, $42 million building is one of two new structures that will replace the outdated Monteith and Arjona buildings. For now, it’s known simply as the “Classroom Building.”

It opened at the start of the fall semester and features 17 classrooms, two auditoriums and office space. It is located between the Student Union and Center for Undergraduate Education.

The second building, which will be known as the Social Sciences and Humanities Building, remains under construction nearby and is scheduled to be completed by next August.
