New Stony Creek lager on tap to ‘Save the Sound’

Stony Creek Brewery, a leading regional craft brewery located in Branford, released a new beer this week to benefit environmental initiatives in and around Long Island Sound.

Save the Sound Light Lager, launched on May 12, was developed in collaboration with the environmental nonprofit Save the Sound.

For every purchase made of the new brew, Stony Creek will donate a portion of the proceeds to Save the Sound. The money raised is geared to help protect and improve the land, air and water of Connecticut and Long Island Sound.

“Save the Sound and Stony Creek Brewery share a love of Long Island Sound and the outdoors, so it was natural to work together,” said Stony Creek Founder Ed Crowley, Sr. “When we developed Save the Sound Light Lager, we thought about where it would be enjoyed. This crisp, light lager is perfectly suited to a day appreciating the outdoors. Everyone who purchases the lager will be helping to protect the outdoor places they enjoy.”

Save the Sound Light Lager is currently available exclusively on draft at Stony Creek’s taproom and select establishments. In the coming weeks, it will be available at retail locations across the Northeast in both 6- and 12-pack options. In keeping with Save the Sound’s mission, Save the Sound Light Lager will be available in eco-friendly packaging to minimize the use of plastic.

The latest lager features a blend of German malts, balanced with a hint of earthy Tettnanger hops, resulting in a bright and crisp beer with a slightly sweet flavor and a light mouth feel.

“We are very excited to be embarking on this partnership with Stony Creek Brewery, whose leadership shares our passion for clean rivers and an abundant Sound,” said Save our Sound President Curt Johnson. “It’s a unique way to get people all across the region engaged in protecting the Sound and its rivers, fighting climate change, saving endangered lands, and restoring ecosystems. We hope Save the Sound Light Lager inspires people to reflect on the clean water that was used to brew it, the air they’re breathing as they enjoy it, and the things we can do together to protect these resources.”

Stony Creek, established in 2010 by Peggy and Ed Crowley, Sr., is one of the state’s largest brewing facilities in Connecticut. The brewery produces 20 different beers distributed throughout New England, including its fan favorites’ the Cranky Series of IPAs and award-winning Dock Time Lager, Stony Joe Stout.
