The Connecticut State Colleges and Universities (CSCU) system has hired a new provost to serve as academic second-in-command of the 90,000-student network of universities and colleges.
Jane Gates has been named provost/senior vice president of academic and student affairs at CSCU, which oversees 12 community colleges, four state universities and Charter Oak State College. Gates assumes the position on Aug. 5, taking over for Estela Lopez who is retiring this summer.
Gates’ salary as provost will be $227,500 per year plus the standard benefits package received by state employees.
Gates currently is the provost and vice president for academic affairs at Western Connecticut State University, which she’s held since 2011. She has completed the Harvard School of Education Management Development Program, Leadership America Forum, and the Harvard Graduate School Institute for Management and Leadership. Gates has recently been appointed to serve on the American Association of State Colleges and Universities Task Force on Teacher Education.
