New Panera Bread location pitched for Hamden

A California-based company is looking to build a new Panera Bread restaurant in a Hamden commercial area on the site of a defunct home decor retail store.

Applicant and property owner Northington Hamden Investors LLC, based out of Carlsbad, California, has submitted plans to town land use boards for a new 3,950-square-foot Panera Bread at 2335 Dixwell Avenue.

The property, at the corner of Skiff Street, is known as Hamden Marketplace and features several other retail stores including Stop & Shop, Old Navy clothing store, Petco, Pep Boys auto parts and Aspen Dental.

A long-vacant Pier 1 Imports home decor and furnishings store at that site would be demolished to make room for the new Panera, which would feature a dining area, outdoor seating, and a drive-thru window.
