Waterbury’s Firefighters Credit Union is changing its name to FD Community Federal Credit Union, effective July 30, authorities say.
The new name reflects the $52 million-asset credit union’s expanded membership base since 2001 from a municipal-employee-only institution organized in 1934 to a community chartered one, said CEO Michael Kinne.
Residents of Waterbury and the eight surrounding towns of Cheshire, Middlebury, Naugatuck, Prospect, Plymouth, Thomaston, Watertown and Wolcott are eligible to join, Kinne said.
New signage will soon go up on all three Waterbury branches at 601 Watertown Ave., the East Gate Plaza on Store Avenue, and at 236 Grand St.
