New London receives $2M for lead abatement

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded $2.02 million to the city of New London for lead abatement and healthy homes remediation.

The New London award is part of $98.3 million in federal funding made available to 38 cities across the country, looking to eliminate dangerous lead hazards from low-income homes.

New London’s office of development and planning estimates 78 percent of the city’s housing stock contains lead-based paint hazards.
