The U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London is one of 25 federal facilities to receive the 2012 Federal Electronics Challenge award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The academy was given a bronze medal for reducing the environmental impacts of its electronics. The total energy savings of all the awardees in the program was $7.8 million.
In addition to the Coast Guard, the project manager of EPA’s New England office, Chris Beling, was one of 10 individual federal employees to be recognized as a champion of the Federal Electronics Challenge.
The challenge is an effort to have federal facilities and agencies buy greener electronics, reduce the impact of electronics during use, and manage the disposal of used electronics in an environmentally safe way.
