New loan program aims to boost e-bike use

Connex Credit Union is making it easier for people to ditch their cars for a greener mode of travel.

It recently launched a new electric, or e-bike, loan program to help make the environmentally-friendly mode of transportation more accessible to Connecticut residents. The loan program offers fixed rates with fixed payments, no application, annual or prepayment fees and the first payment deferred for 90 days.

“Getting an e-bike has never been easier or more affordable,” said Connex Executive Vice President and COO Carl Casper. “Connex is thrilled to be part of the e-bike movement in Connecticut and to put e-bike purchasing within reach for more people. E-bikes provide clean, efficient, fun and cost-effective transportation.”

New state legislation, the Connecticut Clean Air Act, is also in place to provide vouchers up to $500 to low-middle income residents to purchase e-bikes costing up to $3,000.

Connex has teamed up with Park New Haven on this effort to encourage people to go green when it comes to getting around.

“E-bikes are a key way to create greater transportation equity in our community,” said Doug Hausladen, executive director of Park New Haven. “Gas prices are high, and people are rightfully seeking greener and more budget-friendly ways to travel. Creating a bike-friendly city means lowering all barriers to people getting on their bikes and riding. By working with Connex Credit Union, Park New Haven is excited to help even more people afford to make the switch and think outside the car.”

Connex is one of Connecticut’s largest credit unions, serving more than 65,000 members at eligible branches throughout New Haven, Hartford, Middlesex and Fairfield counties.
