A New Jersey recycling company has acquired East Windsor-based NLR Inc., a regulated waste recycler that operates Connecticut’s only state-approved lamp recycling facility.
TerraCycle Commercial, a division of Trenton-based TerraCycle Inc., announced the deal Wednesday, making NLR its fourth acquisition involving regulated waste recycling businesses.
Terms were not disclosed, though TerraCycle said proceeds from a recently completed crowdfunding offering financed the majority of the purchase.
Founded in 1994 by Ray Graczyk and Robert E. Robert, NLR is a regional recycling operation that handles mercury-containing fluorescent lamps, electronics, batteries, ballasts and other materials requiring specialized handling. It serves customers across New England through direct pickup and operates a national mail-back service called NLR Returns.
Robert E. Robert will remain in place to manage TerraCycle’s NLR division, and the company’s East Windsor team will continue serving existing customers, TerraCycle said.
Graczyk, chairman of the Association of Lighting and Mercury Recyclers, is retiring after three decades in the industry.
The acquisition is part of a push by TerraCycle to expand its commercial waste business through acquisitions.
TerraCycle operates across 18 countries. TerraCycle US Inc., the company’s U.S. subsidiary, reported $47.6 million in revenue in 2025, up from $43 million in 2024.
