New Haven planners OK trio of cannabis-related businesses

The cannabis industry is growing in New Haven.

On Wednesday, the New Haven City Plan Commission approved applications for cannabis-related businesses at 222 Sargent Drive, 63 Amity Road and 1041 State St., according to Esther Rose-Wilen, Planner II for the city.

Massachusetts-based INSA CT Retail II secured approval for a cannabis retailer at 222 Sargent Drive, the former Long Wharf Theatre building.

The company plans to renovate a portion of the building into a cannabis retail business. It is leasing approximately 10,800 square feet, with plans to use about 6,282 square feet for the retail space, the application shows.

It aims to start construction in September and finish in the spring of 2024, according to the application.

Also approved were plans for 63 Amity Road, where Nautilus Botanicals EJV2 LLC secured a special permit for a hybrid cannabis retailer.

At 1041 State St., applicant David Salinas and Let’s Grow Hartford LLC got approval for a cannabis retail dispensary on the first floor, occupying about 2,500 square feet.

Two other cannabis-related applications, for a hybrid cannabis retailer at 45 Church St. and cannabis dispensary at 420 Middletown Ave., were on the agenda Wednesday, but the panel postponed taking any action on those. Those proposals are slated to be discussed again at the CPC’s meeting July 26, according to Rose-Wilen.
