New Haven labs supplier Macalaster Bicknell sold

New Haven laboratory-supplies vendor Macalaster Bicknell has been purchased by two former executives at a competitor who plan to launch an e-commerce website and move the company’s headquarters to North Haven, MassHighTech.com reports.

Tim Grogan and Chris Lope, who both worked previously at Radnor, Pa.-based VWR International LLC, bought six-employee Macalaster Bicknell, 181 Henry St., in July through their private equity firm, Logan Enterprises, LLC.

The two have moved it to neighboring North Haven, and said in a statement they have upgraded the physical and IT infrastructure, including an e-commerce platform that relies on customer feedback and digital marketing.

The company did not disclose terms of the acquisition nor recent revenues.

Founded in 1920 and known colloquially as Mac Bick, the company has been family-owned for two generations. Its products include glass tubing and rods, and glass blanks.

Grogan, a Falmouth resident, told Mass High Tech that the company has its roots in Cambridge, and moved to New Haven in the 1940s. He says he knew of the company through his work in the northeast area with VWR International.
