A Neo-Tudor home designed by the architect renowned for creating the famous St. Louis Gateway Arch and TWA terminal at JFK Airport is for sale in New Haven for $1.4 million.
The 4,986-square-foot home at 10 Saint Ronan Terrace hit the market on Sept. 8, and is generating lots of interest, in part, for its unique story, according to the property’s listing agent John M. Cuozzo Jr,. of Hamden-based Press/Cuozzo Realtors.

Located on a cul-de-sac with views of East Rock, the 12-room New Haven home is filled with details designed by the late Finnish American architect Eero Saarinen. While Saarinen designed the home for himself and his family, he died before he could move in.
However, his wife Aline and son Eames did move into the sprawling home and were able to complete some of Saarinen’s unfinished details.
Cuozzo said the home, built in 1930, is “filled with light,” and boasts many characteristics synonymous with the Neo-Tudor style. The exterior is a mix of brick and stucco, with high-pitched roofs. The interior features high ceilings, clean lines and ornate fireplaces.
A foyer leads to formal living and dining rooms, both featuring fireplaces and oversized windows.
In addition, the three-story home features a library with Saarinen shelving, fireplace and French door to a private, bluestone patio. The kitchen has an adjacent butler's pantry, breakfast room and back hall entry with storage space.

A grand staircase leads to a three-room primary bedroom suite with fireplace and full bathroom, sitting room and second library. The third floor features two bedrooms plus a pitched ceiling family/rec room with fireplace, full bath and Gothic-style doorways, inspired by a home owned by Saarinen's father.
Saarinen was an award-winning architect world famous not only for the St. Louis Arch and TWA terminal at JFK (now the TWA Hotel), but for designing the Washington Dulles International Airport, as well.
The single-family home, situated on 0.32 acres, also has a detached two-car garage, gas heat and is within walking distance to Saarinen’s alma mater, Yale University, and downtown New Haven.
“There are so many Saarinen touches throughout this house, which contemporizes it to some degree,” said Cuozzo. “It’s a house filled with light, unlike others in this style that can often be dark.”
The home is currently owned by Dorothy Lewis and John F. Peters, and OTNOW trustees. The city of New Haven’s most recent appraisal valued the property at $1.2 million.
