A New Haven parking garage was certified as the first green building of its kind in Connecticut and the second in the nation in a ceremony at 11 a.m. today.
The Green Parking Council and the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund unveiled several upgrades to the Chapel Square Garage at the Omni Hotel this morning, including a juice bar electric car charging station and a free tire inflation station. It is the first Connecticut Certified Green Garage by the Green Parking Council.
The garage received $76,000 from the Energy Efficiency Fund to upgrade to more environmentally friendly LED lighting, lower electricity and maintenance costs by 75 percent.
Other amenities a free loaner bicycle lot where customers will offices further away from the garage can bike to work; and recycling stations placed throughout the garage.
